New Berlinale Cinema: Friedrichstadtpalast becomes FriedrichstadtFilmpalast
(Noticiascadadía).- The 59th Berlin International Film Festival 2009 will include the world-famous Friedrichstadtpalast as one of its cinema venues. From February 7-15, this tradition-steeped and unique revue theatre will turn into a film theatre, where over 1,800 moviegoers can attend four to six screenings from the Competition or Berlinale Special programmes daily.
“The Friedrichstadtpalast is a wonderful addition to the Berlinale venues. The theatre, its acoustics and new cinema equipment promise to deliver a high-quality film experience,” says Dieter Kosslick, director of the Berlinale, “and now we can offer Berlinale viewers even more opportunities to attend the highly popular Berlinale films.”
The temporary use of the Friedrichstadtpalast as a screening venue is possible due to the theatre holiday from February 1-15, when regular theatre operation is suspended. To guarantee a professional film presentation, the Friedrichstadtpalast will install certified cinema equipment. Its central location in Berlin, close to the main Berlinale venues on Potsdamer Platz, makes the Friedrichstadtpalast an ideal stage for the Festival.
The FriedrichstadtFilmpalast will also serve as the premiere venue for special Berlinale films. Competition premieres will take place at the Berlinale Palast as usual.
